Notice: SHUTL Reopens with Renewed Space

The art space SHUTL had been temporarily closed since Friday, February 14, 2025, but reopened on Thursday, May 15, 2025, with a partly update the space layout
SHUTL opened in October 2023 as an art space with the concept of being “an experimental laboratory for creating new connections between tradition and contemporary.” It began by reusing capsules from the Nakagin Capsule Tower, designed by Kisho Kurokawa. Following discussions with the relevant authorities regarding the facility, two of these capsules have now been temporarily removed, allowing SHUTL to relaunch as a flatter, more open space.

The concept remains unchanged:
An experimental laboratory for creating new connections between tradition and contemporary, and a place for generating “authentic futures.”
We aim to promote the fusion of traditional culture and contemporary culture, and to support the ongoing renewal of Japanese culture itself.

The partition-free space, approximately 85 square meters in area and 4 meters in height, now offers greater freedom of expression. It can host a wide range of innovative projects and creative activities including exhibitions, music events, and fashion shows.
